What is investment management?
Investment management is, simply put, the management of investments. Investments can take the form of a range of financial products across several asset classes, and different investment methodologies and strategies exist.
Investment management is an important topic as final salary pensions are a thing of the past – old age pensions will no longer be enough to retire on. Pensions are therefore the most widely undertaken form of investing today.
Why do asset management firms exist?
Asset managers play a key role in investment management, connecting parties that have assets (investors) with those that need them (institutions that are seeking investment).
Through investment, businesses are able to grow, expand their workforces and fund innovation. Without asset managers serving as the middlemen, the financial services industry would struggle to function.
